About Us

The Flying Club of Columbus was established in 2003 by Bill Tebo. His new found love of flying fueled his unquenchable desire to share the experience with others. An accountant by trade, he began researching options of leasing back his new aircraft acquisition so others might enjoy flying too, without the need of owning their own aircraft. Bill along with his new friends,Jeff and Jason Tate, father and son pilots, began to discuss the need for an "old fashioned flying club" in the Columbus area. A club that made flying affordable and offered top notch flight training in addition to reasonable aircraft rental for pilots without airplanes. Bill's need to want to help probably stems from his true calling as an associate minister of a church in the community. After discussion with his supportive wife, Laurel, and much prayer, The Flying Club of Columbus was born. Since its inception, the club has grown continually, now offering five aircraft to its members. The number of members has also grown to well over 150. The management of the club was handled solely by Bill until 2007 at which time Jeff Tate was hired as the Flight Operations Director, working directly with the instructors and the students. Jeff's role in the club has proven to be a great asset to not only Bill but to every club member. He assists in flight co-ordination, maintenance schedules of the aircraft, club promotions, and the pilot shop.

The enjoyment by members of the club is evidenced by the unparalleled success rate of newly trained pilots and new airplane purchases of many of the members. Members who have bought their own airplanes have continued to stay active in the club because of the fun and comradery as well as the "back up" factor of having an airplane at their convenience, should their personal plane be down for maintenance.
